The Issue

The urban metropolis of Miami bears a notable absence of farming, agriculture, and gardening representation on its online platforms. Despite the fact that these sectors contribute significantly to the city's economy and local culture, there remains a lack of virtual visibility. According to the USDA's 2017 Census of Agriculture, Miami-Dade County is in the top 1% for market value of agricultural products sold amongst the U.S. counties. Evidently, farming, agriculture, and gardening are integral to our economic ecosystem. Furthermore, community building and mental health benefits are also associated with these fields. A 2020 study published in the International Journal of Environmental Health Research found that activities such as gardening can reduce stress, boost mood, and improve overall mental health. Despite these substantial contributions, there's a void in their online representation in Miami. Such a change could encourage youth engagement, promote local produce, and provide educational resources for our community. This petition calls for our local government and office of economic development to enhance the visibility of farming, agriculture, and gardening on Miami's online platforms. Sign this petition to support our local farmers and gardeners today.
