Update - Saturday 15th July 2023

Dear Supporters,

Thank you for your hard work so far. Through your efforts of signing and sharing the petition, we are coming close to achieving 500 signatures in support of An Olive Branch (link to AOB website here) conducting an investigation into the allegations of abuse & ethical misconduct in Kagyu Buddhism Ireland (KSDD).

To those of you who were looking for some more information, we are enclosing some resources!

Seminar by Dr. Ann Gleig & Dr. Amy Langenberg - note, this is in English, despite Spanish subtitles: Link to Seminar on YouTube. Watch this if you want to know more about:

  • Survivor centred accountability processes;
  • How the response of a Buddhist community to a survivor can be even more harmful, or as harmful, as the survivor’s actual experience of abuse or misconduct;
  • How Buddhist doctrine can be weaponised against survivors, and how damaging that can be.

Ethics in the Teacher-Student Relationship: The Responsibilities of Teachers and Students: Link to 'Ethics in the Teacher-Student Relationship'.

  • These are notes taken during the meeting of H.H. the Dalai Lama and Western Buddhist Teachers in Dharamshala, 1993. This is also the source of the quote on our title poster for this update.

FaithTrust Institute - handbook on ‘Responding to Spiritual Leader Misconduct: Link to FaithTrust Handbook. To quote from the FaithTrust website, this handbook:

  • Lays out the basic principles of analysis of misconduct in a spiritual or religious community: who, what, when, and where.
  • It offers the principles for trauma-informed responses to complaints and the conceptual framework to navigate the process of response.

Thank you so much for your support so far. We hope that the above resources will be useful to you. We hope to have an update on the progress of our petition soon!

With gratitude,

Project Sangha
