Two years ago, on april 25 my son Gavin Orion Mathey stopped breathing. I watched as his heart rate droppped, and his o2 saturation declined steadily. I took my tiny lifeless infant from the arms of my husband and with success performed infant cpr befor the medics arrived. They told me i was a hero, i told them i was his mother. this was my job. I never realilzed how many people out there do not know infant cpr or its differences. alothough very frequently ineffective, infant cpr when done properly  and quickly can save the life of your child. It is not something you can just "wing" from seeing on t.v. it is something that requires real training, that not all of us have. i propose that it be manadatory for all parents to pass an infant cpr course befor being able to take their child home. obvious acceptions are those who already carry a valid cpr certification and those who work in health care field. i believe this is the way to give our babies the best chance to make it to their first birthday. because EVERY baby deserves to eat their first birthday cake :)
