Prohibit the Use of IXL in the Austin Independent School District

The Issue

In our everyday school life, we, the students, are being reduced to a numerical figure based on an online system called 'IXL'. As a member of this tight-knit educational community, I see firsthand, how emotionally challenging it is to get valued on 'smartness' with the increasing toughness of questions resulting in acquiring fewer points. In fact, most of the students in our school who frequently use IXL, approximately 90% of them, have expressed feelings of emotional instability.

More alarmingly, the amount of time required even for a sixth-grade IXL can cross 3 hours, even with adult assistance—a troubling indication of how overwhelming this program can be. It's no understatement that our learning conditions have been adversely affected, creating a mentally and emotionally taxing environment.

While this method may work for some, the vast majority of students feel devalued and overworked. Therefore, I am urging to ban the use of IXL in the Austin Independent School District. This step will ensure that our learning environment isn't held captive by a single controlling online system, but rather fosters a compassionate and conducive atmosphere.

The severity of this situation and the necessity for structured, balanced education systems should not be overlooked. Therefore, I ask for your support. Sign this petition to ban the use of IXL in our district. Every signee brings us a step closer to improving the quality of our education and preserving the mental wellbeing of our students.
