Prohibit the Use of I-Ready in All Schools Nationwide
The Issue
As a student in Danville, IL, I am personally experiencing the stress and pressure that comes with using the I-Ready program. Our class goal is set at 45 and we are only halfway through. This high-pressure environment is not conducive to learning or personal development.
I-Ready is an online program used by many schools across our nation. It's designed to provide personalized instruction based on each student's individual needs. However, many students and educators have raised concerns about its effectiveness and impact on mental health.
According to a survey conducted by The National Education Association (NEA), more than half of the teachers reported that their students found online programs like I-Ready stressful (NEA, 2019). Moreover, research from Stanford University suggests that too much screen time can negatively affect children’s cognitive development (Stanford University, 2020).
We believe that education should be about fostering creativity and critical thinking skills rather than achieving arbitrary numerical goals. We urge educational authorities nationwide to reconsider the use of such high-pressure online programs like I-ready in our schools.
Please sign this petition if you agree that our children deserve a stress-free learning environment where they can truly thrive.
