My good friend recently experienced an epileptic seizure triggered by the use of hammers during a battle on TikTok. This is not an isolated incident. Many users, while seeking to connect with their communities through this popular app, have had similar experiences. These digital hammers, often sent in large quantities during battles, are known to trigger seizures in some individuals.

Epilepsy affects approximately 65 million people worldwide and 3.4 million people in the United States alone (source: Epilepsy Foundation). The flashing lights and rapid movements associated with these digital hammers can provoke seizures in those susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy.

TikTok has a responsibility to ensure its platform is safe for all users. By banning the use of hammers during battles, TikTok can protect its users from unnecessary harm and make the app more inclusive for people living with epilepsy or other neurological conditions.
