Prohibit the Use of GoGuardian in Schools

The Issue

I am an individual who feels negatively affected by the use of GoGuardian, a classroom management software designed to keep students' online activities within the educators' view. Though this tool promises to maintain a focused and secure learning environment, its usage has often crossed boundaries that infringe on students' privacy rights and autonomy.

This software, through its abilities to monitor and control student activity, creates a culture of distrust and unease. According to a study by New York University’s Brennan Center for Justice, excessive surveillance can lead to higher levels of stress and anxiety. This isn't the kind of environment conducive to learning that we want our children to be exposed to.

GoGuardian certainly has its merits. It helps teachers keep track of what students are doing online during class and provides tools to protect students from harmful or distracting content. But there are alternative solutions that respect students' personal lives and foster trust between educators and learners. I also feel that if educators don't use Goguardian, then students could have a better chance to develop qualities such as honesty and integrity, which will make them better people in the future.

It's time we prioritized a balance between safety and privacy. Let's call upon educational institutions to discontinue the use of GoGuardian in their classrooms. We can find better ways to ensure a safe and productive e-learning environment that respects each student's privacy. Please support this change, sign this petition to protect the digital privacy and rights of students.
