I have a deeply personal connection with nature, particularly with eagles and other fish-eating species, which are profoundly affected by human actions. My heart breaks as I witness the silent killer among these creatures – lead poisoning. Many of these birds succumb to lead poisoning due to consumption of fish that have swallowed lead fishing equipment. These majestic birds, emblems of freedom and wildness, are dying a needless death.

The U.S Fish and Wildlife Service reports that million of birds die annually due to lead poisoning. Not only birds, but other fish-eating animals are also indirectly affected by lead fishing equipment. It's time we reconsider the materials we are using while enjoying nature's bounty.

It's heartbreaking to see the creatures we admire suffer from our actions. There are non-toxic alternatives to lead that are available and should be encouraged to use. It is well past time to revise our policies and continue our activities without harming the very creatures we set out to admire.

This isn't just an issue for animal lovers, but every fisherman, and indeed every citizen who respects the balance of nature. A cleaner, safer world can start with a small change. Prohibit the use of lead fishing equipment. The ripple effect could save countless lives of the creatures we hold dear.
