As a devoted pet owner, I have witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of loud fireworks. My dog, who should be safe and secure in his home, instead, trembles in fear, shaking and drooling. Despite medicating him, there is little I can do to comfort him while fireworks explode around our home for hours on end. The brief public display in my village, which lasts about 15 to 20 minutes, is manageable. But the constant, unpredictable detonation of loud fireworks is an unbearable experience both for my pet and me. Fireworks are not just a nightmare for domestic animals; they cause distress to wildlife and people dealing with PTSD and other mental health issues, which are exacerbated by the unexpected loud bangs. The solution is simple and more considerate: let’s limit the sale of loud fireworks to public displays alone and restrict the sale to the general public to silent fireworks only. Furthermore, we need regulation on when these fireworks can be detonated. No one should have to live in fear in their own home, whether they are human or animal.
