Prohibit the Sale of Loud Fireworks in Supermarkets

The Issue

I have a personal story involving my Romanian rescue dog, who is left trembling and terrified by the loud fireworks sold in our local supermarkets. Every bang and pop sends her into an uncontrollable panic. I find her too scared to even venture into our own garden or go for a walk.

This situation raises a larger issue: the effect of fireworks noise on our pets. Studies have shown that not just dogs, but many pets are traumatized by the loud noises created by fireworks, with severe instances causing them to harm themselves by trying to escape the deafening sound (Smith et al., 2019).

This impacts countless pet-owners and their beloved companions. In the UK alone, the RSPCA found that up to 45% of dogs show signs of fear when they hear fireworks (RSPCA, 2017). This is an issue that greatly reduces the quality of life for these animals and their owners and is something we should all take steps to prevent.

By limiting the sale of loud fireworks specifically to professional displays and prohibiting their sale in ordinary supermarkets, we can ensure a safer, less traumatic environment for our pets while still enjoying the spectacle of fireworks in a controlled setting. Please sign our petition. Let's bring silence to the supermarkets and peace to our pets.
