Prohibit the Sale of Hard Alcohol at AM/PM

The Issue

Living next to an AM/PM store can be a real challenge due to the continuous disturbance caused by loud music blasting from cars all day. As residents, we need tranquillity, especially in the evening when we are trying to fall asleep or when we're suddenly woken up in the middle of the night by the noise. The situation could get worse with the near completion of a Taco Bell close by. One can predict people obtaining their alcohol from AM/PM, hanging out at Taco Bell, and causing even more disruption.

The current alcohol outlet density is already higher in our community with 7 places selling alcohol within 2 miles of AM/PM, including 2 within a 0.2-mile radius. There's even a bar as near as 462 feet from the store. Research has shown a strong association between alcohol outlet density and excessive drinking, as well as related harms like violence and crime in community (source: American Journal of Public Health, 2009).

By adding another outlet selling hard alcohol, we are deepening the risk for our neighbourhood. Let's stand up against turning AM/PM into another avenue for selling hard alcohol, worsening our quality of life, and increasing public safety issues. Please sign this petition and help us maintain a peaceful, safe neighbourhood.
