As a mental health professional and a dog owner, I am deeply troubled by the distress and harm caused by fireworks sold to the public. Each year, around the 5th of November and New Year's, my dog is so terrified that we have to administer tranquillisers. Likewise, I've seen many people, especially those suffering from PTSD, go through overwhelming distress due to the unexpected loud bangs.

Unregulated fireworks not only instigate unnecessary fear but also pose direct hazards.  Moreover, fireworks contribute to environmental pollution and risk of fire outbreaks, both of which have large-scale, detrimental effects.

This is not a call against celebration but for safer, more regulated festivities. Please join my call to prohibit the sale of fireworks to the public. Instead, let us leave pyrotechnics to the professionals who have undergone extensive training to ensure the safety of all involved. By limiting fireworks display to organized events conducted by certified pyrotechnics, we can preserve the spirit of celebration, while protecting our communities and loved ones from the dangers linked with amateur firework usage.
