Every year, the explosive beauty of fireworks is marred by numerous preventable accidents. This is compounded by the impact on our pets and wildlife, who are often severely distressed by the deafening sounds and bright lights as well as those, for example, who are on the autism spectrum and are terrified and those suffering with PTSD (not just veterans). Our petition is to restrict the sale of fireworks to only licensed event organisers, significantly reducing the risk of accidents and unnecessary distress. We ask the Government to review and understand the statistics, consider the welfare of all citizens and animals alike, and to implement laws restricting the sale and use of fireworks to regulated, controlled displays only. Sign this petition to help ensure our celebrations are both spectacular and safe. It seems more and more people are illegally using fireworks and causing severe distress, including setting off fireworks in the direction of people, animals and homes. This cannot continue.
