Prohibit the Sale of Fireworks Nationwide

Prohibit the Sale of Fireworks Nationwide
The Issue
I am a pet owner with three dogs who get terrified every time they hear fireworks. It’s heartbreaking to see the very members of your family shaking, hiding, or worse, trying to escape out of fear. Fireworks are not just a nuisance, but cause severe distress for countless animals around the country. It's time we bring a change. Fireworks are known to cause noise pollution and they also contribute to air pollution. According to a study by the United States Environmental Protection Agency, fireworks can "cause severe air pollution in a short amount of time, leaving metal particles, dangerous toxins, harmful chemicals and smoke in the air for hours and even days" (US EPA, 2019). They also pose a severe risk to human health and safety, with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reporting that in 2018 an estimated 9,100 individuals were injured seriously enough to require medical treatment after fireworks-related incidents. Almost half of those injuries were to children under 14 years old (US CPSC, 2019). These statistics are alarming and cannot be ignored. It is high time to take a stand and make a change. Please sign this petition to prohibit the sale of fireworks nationwide and protect our pets, children, and the environment from unnecessary harm.
