I live in a townhome complex where our dear canine friends turn into scared, trembling creatures every time fireworks are set off in the surrounding neighborhoods. These creatures of innocent joy are terrified, and we spend long hours trying to calm them down. These instances are frequent, with most fireworks being extremely loud booms that suggest a high probability of their illegality. With every bang, it's not only the disturbing noise pollution we're dealing with. We're having to pacify our terrified pets, as well.

The stress on animals due to fireworks is no minor issue. According to a study by the RSPCA, 45% of dogs in the UK show signs of fear when they hear fireworks (RSPCA, 2019). The loud noises can cause extreme distress for animals, increasing heart rates and leading to a potential risk of heart attack in some cases. Firework debris also poses a significant threat to both animals and the environment.

To this end, we are calling for a complete ban on the sale and use of fireworks for personal use, regardless of the time of year. It's not just about our peace or the peace of our animals; it's about overall community safety and wellbeing. Reducing the use of fireworks will lead to quieter, safer, and happier neighborhoods for everyone, pets included.
