Prohibit the Public Sale of Fireworks

Prohibit the Public Sale of Fireworks
The Issue
As a local councillor and a dog owner, I bear witness to the adverse effects that fireworks can have on animals, wildlife, and humans. My dog is distressed each time the 5th of November rolls around, and she's not the only one suffering. Not only do the sudden, loud noises cause fear and anxiety among many pets, but wildlife and humans, especially those with sensory sensitivities, are affected as well.
It's estimated that around 45% of dogs in the UK show signs of fear when they hear fireworks (source: RSPCA). This statistic is alarming. It's not just about our personal pets; wildlife is also disturbed during this time. Fireworks can cause nesting birds and other creatures to abandon their homes, leading to declines in population (source: RSPCA).
While fireworks are an integral part of celebrations such as the 5th of November, their sale and use should be controlled. As a community, we can enjoy these dazzling displays in a safer and controlled manner through publicly organised firework events. By limiting the use of fireworks to these events, we can significantly mitigate the ill effects of unplanned fireworks displays on our animal friends and fellow citizens.
I ask for your help in making this change. Please sign this petition to ban the public sale of fireworks, and instead enjoy them responsibly at publicly organised events.
