I write this petition from a deeply personal standpoint, having witnessed the horrific scene of my own pet parrot caught up in an adhesive rat-tap mat. These contraptions are not only dangerous to unintended victims, such as innocent pets and wildlife, but their method of killing rats - slow starvation or gradual suffocation - is undeniably cruel.

Each year, countless animals suffer needlessly due to these sticky traps. A 2015 report by the American Veterinary Medical Association states that glue boards cause distress and suffering that is not immediately lethal. The trapped animals struggle till they are exhausted, only to die an extended painful death [American Veterinary Medical Association, 2015].

To uphold our responsibility towards humane treatment of animals, we request immediate cessation of the production of adhesive rat trap mats. The cruelty involved in their usage overshadows their potential effectiveness, and more humane and equally effective alternatives are widely available today.

We cannot stand by while the peak of our moral fundamentals is compromised by such blatant acts of cruelty. Let us unify and raise our voice against this practice, sparing countless lives of both intended and unwarranted victims.
