My petition aims to have legislative bodies acknowledge the danger balloon releases pose to our environment and wildlife, and to enforce a ban on such activities. This issue is deeply personal to me because it's distressing to see our natural world continuously bear the brunt of human disregard. Balloons, made from materials such as rubber, latex, nylon, and polyethylene, take years to decompose - but their impact is felt by our environment far before that. Once released, these balloons eventually become litter, creating pollution that we cannot ignore.

More alarmingly, they pose a direct threat to wildlife. Birds, sea turtles, and other wildlife often ingest deflated balloons or get entangled in the strings, leading to injury or death. According to a 2015 report by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation in Australia, balloons are among the top three most harmful pollutants affecting wildlife, alongside plastic bags and bottles.

Moreover, balloon releases also waste helium, a non-renewable resource. The US Federal Helium Reserve, the world's largest supplier, is depleting at an alarming rate and could be exhausted by the end of this decade.

It's time we recognize the long-term environmental impacts of our fleeting moments of celebration and stop balloon releases. With the evidence at hand, and for the sake of our wildlife, it's an issue that can no longer be left up in the air. I urge everyone to take a step toward a greener, more sustainable future and sign this petition to ban balloon releases.
