Prohibit the Mandatory Usage of Yondr Bags in Public Schools

The Issue

As a student who consistently needs to communicate with friends, family, and even my employer, the usage of Yondr bags in our school system has abruptly disrupted my daily life. It restricts me from my phone for 35 hours a week - 7 hours per day, 5 days a week -, preventing me from maintaining good relationships and necessary communications. This communication barrier is not just a personal issue; it is a problem for the thousands of students attending public school.

Many argue that these bags are necessary for minimizing distractions, but they hardly consider the negative implications they have on students' autonomy and their right to communication, particularly in emergencies or the need for parental contact.

Admittedly, reducing distractions in classrooms is crucial for effective learning, but there must be a less restrictive way. Currently, there are insufficient office phones available for student use, rendering the mandatory application of Yondr bags impractical.

We propose a more balanced approach to this issue, one that considers the students' need for access to their personal devices while still upholding an effective learning environment. Perhaps, rules or schedules for mobile use could be implemented or a system could be introduced where students can easily access their phones in cases of emergency.

By signing this petition, you stand with us in calling for an end to the restrictive use of Yondr bags in public schools and urging for a reasonable solution that fits both educational and personal needs of the students. Please sign this petition, and let us reintegrate our necessary communication back into our lives.
