Prohibit the Law Permitting Shooting of Animals to Safeguard Livestock

The Issue

I am a resident of Kentucky, and I have lost two beloved pets to a law that allows animals to be shot in the name of protecting livestock. My cane corso was recently killed, shot in the bladder with an excessive amount of deadly force by neighbors claiming they were "protecting" their livestock.

This law is not only causing heartbreak for pet owners like me but also promoting violence against animals. There are other non-lethal methods available for protecting livestock such as fencing, guardian animals, or scare devices which can effectively deter predators without resorting to killing (source: Humane Society).

In 2019 alone, over 5000 cases were reported where domestic pets were killed under this law in Kentucky (source: Animal Legal Defense Fund). This number does not account for unreported incidents or wildlife affected by this legislation.

We need your support to change this unjust law. Let's work together towards creating safer communities for both our pets and livestock without resorting to lethal measures. Please sign this petition urging lawmakers in Kentucky to ban the shooting of animals under the guise of protecting livestock.
