As a working artist and alumnus of Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD), I have seen how the annual MCAD Art Sale can support our community of emerging and professional artists. This year, the MCAD Art Sale has decided not to take a stance against the rise of AI-generated artwork.

AI artwork in the MCAD Art Sale damages our community by devaluing artists who invest their time and talent into their craft and rewarding the use of technology threatening to make our careers obsolete. Students and alumni have poured countless hours into their education, but the MCAD administration fails to protect us against the technology displacing artists from their jobs. We cannot let this happen to our community.

We urge MCAD to uphold its commitment to supporting human artists by prohibiting AI art from being included in all MCAD Art Sales going forward. This will ensure that every piece sold is a genuine reflection of individual creativity and effort.
