My family, including my vegetarian wife and children, and I deeply care about the ethical treatment of all creatures. That's why we feel called to action when we witness the inhumane practice of forcefully feeding birds by placing a rod down their throats, resulting in them ingesting more calories than they would naturally. This action not only disregards the autonomy of the bird but also alters its natural eating habits, posing numerous health risks. According to the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, such practices can lead to the onset of diseases that wouldn't only affect the bird but potentially spread to other birds and animals in the ecosystem (RSPB, 2021). We cannot stand by and let such cruelty become normalized. Hence, we are calling upon relevant local and national regulatory bodies to enforce stricter regulations on such practices and encourage more ethical and compassionate treatment of birds.
