Prohibit the Exploitation of Horses for Carriage Rides at Neuschwanstein Castle
The Issue
As a recent traveller to the beautiful Neuschwanstein Castle, I found myself confronted with a distressing sight: horses struggling as they pulled heavy, overloaded carriages up the castle’s steep hills. Regrettably, this antiquated form of transportation is not unique to this iconic location, but it is a poignant example of a practice that neglects our moral responsibility towards animals.
The 21st century has granted us various alternative means of transportation that are not only more efficient but also much more humane. In this modern age, there is simply no justification for the cruel and barbaric expectation for horses to bear the burden of tourists, many of whom are perfectly capable of making the journey on foot.
The horses involved in this service endure undue stress as they labour up and down the unforgiving terrain in all weather conditions. Germany, a country that celebrates its respect for animal welfare, should not endorse such exploitation of animals in one of its most renowned landmarks.
This needless animal exploitation presents an opportunity for us to usher in a new era of tourism—one that is informed by compassion, modernness, and respect for all living beings. Therefore, we implore the responsible authorities to ban the use of horse-drawn carriages at Neuschwanstein Castle and adopt humane, modern alternatives that would ensure the well-being of these splendid animals and reflect more positively on Germany's commitment to animal welfare. Please stand with us on this significant cause and sign this petition.
