The Issue

Our neighborhood, a peaceful and family-oriented community, is facing a potential disruption that has sparked concern among its residents. The proposal to open a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center in close proximity to our homes, schools, and playgrounds is a matter of grave concern for many of us who treasure the safety and tranquility of our environment.

This proposal hits home for me personally, as my children, like many others, commute daily along the streets where this facility is slated to be. The opening of such a center would mean that individuals seeking treatment, who undoubtedly need care and support, would be waiting for appointments at all hours. This new dynamic poses a potential risk not only to our children but also diminishes the sense of security and peace our community has long enjoyed.

While I do understand the importance and need for such centers for the betterment of those struggling with substance abuse, the location within a residential area, especially one bustling with school children and families, is misguided. Schools have particular zones to ensure the safety of children, and having such a facility close by contradicts those safety protocols.

We advocate for a solution that acknowledges the needs of those requiring treatment while also respecting the rights of local residents to maintain a safe and secure neighborhood. This delicate balance can be achieved by exploring alternative locations for the center—places that are equitably accessible for those in need but don’t compromise the safety of school zones and residential areas.

We appeal to the city planners and decision-makers to reconsider the location of this facility. Let's work together to find a more suitable site that serves all parts of our community fairly and responsibly.

Please sign this petition to voice your concern and protect the integrity of our neighborhood for ourselves and future generations.
