The Issue

I recently had a heart-wrenching experience. As I drove past what initially appeared to be a stone statue on a busy dual carriageway, I was shocked to discover it was actually a horse - soaking wet, tethered, isolated and without any provision of water. This wasn't an isolated incident; since moving to the countryside, I've seen this cruel practice on numerous occasions.

I reported these incidents to the RSPCA and various equine societies for investigation. However, much to my dismay, it is currently deemed 'acceptable and lawful' in the UK to treat horses this way. The law has yet to catch up with our understanding of animal welfare.

Tethering horses without providing them with shelter or water is not only cruel but also neglectful. According to World Horse Welfare organization's report in 2018, tethered horses are at risk of injury from their tethers or from passing traffic if they escape onto roads. They often suffer from malnutrition due to lack of food or clean water while being exposed continuously to weather extremes.

This situation needs immediate attention; we must change our laws now for better protection against such neglect of basic needs for these noble creatures who cannot speak up for themselves.

Please join me in urging lawmakers in the UK Parliament House that we need stricter regulations against horse tethering practices that deprive them of their basic needs like shelter and water access. Let's ensure that no more horses have to endure such cruelty under our watch! Please sign this petition today!
