The Issue

As an individual who's held a lifelong fondness for polar bears, I was shocked and heartbroken by a recent video depicting the grave mistreatment and abuse these magnificent creatures endure in captivity. This petition serves as a call to change our practices and protect polar bears, prioritizing their wellbeing over commercial gain.

Statistics and research show that polar bears in captivity often suffer from stress, abnormal behaviour, and poor physical health due to inadequate living conditions. According to the Born Free Foundation, more than half of the polar bears in zoos display signs of 'zoochosis', a form of mental distress. Moreover, polar bears can roam up to 31 kilometers in a single day in the wild, while in captivity their movement is heavily restricted in comparison (Polar Bears International).

It is clear that the natural habitat of a polar bear can never be replicated in confinement, and as such, the only ethical action is to make it illegal to hold polar bears in captivity. The life of each polar bear is precious and deserves respect, care, and freedom. With your help, we can spark the necessary change and put a stop to the detainment of these beautiful animals.

Please, let's not turn a blind eye to their suffering. Sign this petition now to ban the captivity of polar bears.
