Prohibit the Breeding of Short-Legged Cats Due to Health Complications

The Issue

As a passionate cat lover and advocate for their well-being, I am deeply concerned about the breeding of short-legged cats. This practice is not only unethical but also detrimental to the health and quality of life of these beautiful felines.

Short-legged cats often suffer from numerous health issues such as Lordosis a condition that is characterized by a curving spine in your cat’s lower back. Pectus Excavatum- literally means “hollow breast”. Osteoarthritis is a degenerative disease that results in the breakdown of the tissues in your cat’s joints, such as the bone and cartilage. Uremia is defined by high levels of urea and amino acids in the bloodstream. Uremia is usually accompanied by a kidney injury or an obstruction of your cat’s urinary tubes. When your cat is unable to properly expel its urine, it can lead to a buildup of toxins in their bodies. Also, Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD), to name a few. According to veterinarians and animal welfare experts, these cats often suffer from spinal problems due to their disproportionate bodies (source: American Veterinary Medical Association). Due to their short legs, they have difficulty grooming themselves. They struggle with basic functions like using the bathroom properly or defending themselves from predators due to their physical limitations.

The breeding of these cats is driven by a misguided perception that their unusual appearance makes them "cute". However, this aesthetic appeal comes at a significant cost to their well-being. It's cruel and inhumane to compromise an animal's health for our own selfish reasons.

The breeding of short-legged cats does not serve any purpose or offer any benefit for the animals themselves; instead, it leads to a myriad of health issues that significantly affect their quality of life. It's time we put an end to this cruel practice that prioritizes aesthetics over animal welfare. Therefore, We must take action now to prevent further suffering and protect future generations of cats from these unnecessary health complications. This practice is cruel and needs to be banned immediately.
