Having lived my whole life in New Haven, IN, I cherish the quiet and community-centric nature of our town. However, lately, traffic has surged with heavy semi trucks using Webster Rd. This change poses significant safety risks for our children, our schools, and overall community well-being.

Webster Rd was never designed to serve as a major thoroughfare for massive vehicles, which ignore our community's pedestrian and cyclist-friendly atmosphere. Our roads should be safe pathways for locals, not transformed into bustling highways filled with semi trucks that put pedestrians at risk.

Statistics indicate that heavy truck traffic increases road wear and tear, leading to higher maintenance costs. This also increases noise pollution, diminishes air quality, and heightens the risk of serious accidents. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, large trucks account for a disproportionately higher percentage of fatal crashes.

Redirecting this traffic will certainly preserve our road infrastructure, reduce pollution, and most importantly, maintain the safety and tranquility our community deserves. We advocate for implementing suitable road signage and working with county officials to devise a plan redirecting semi trucks to designated truck routes, better equipped to handle their size and weight.
