The Issue

The heart-wrenching sight of beautiful owls, hawks, cats, dogs and coyotes slowly dying, confirmed by toxicology reports, is a bitter reality. They are not the victims of a natural process, but rather the unwitting secondary victims of rat poison. We set out on this mission, deeply personal to us, to ban rat poison due to its extreme harm not only to the pests it is intended to eliminate, but also to our beloved pets and cherished wildlife.

Rat poison companies are selling their products under the guise that they are specifically toxic to rats and are non-lethal to other animals, creating a false sense of security. However, the reality is far from this. The active ingredients in many rat poisons are anticoagulants which cause animals to bleed to death internally, a death that is horrifically slow and painful. When a predator or scavenger consumes a poisoned rat or comes into contact with residual poison, they suffer the same gruesome fate.

It isn't just a few ravens and coyotes in question here, but our entire ecosystem is at risk. The secondary poisoning is causing a concerning decline in raptor populations, interrupting the balance in nature and jeopardizing our biodiversity. The loss of predatory birds and mammals means an increase in the rats and mice they would naturally control, setting off a vicious and destructive cycle. We need to step in before it gets out of hand.

We demand governments and regulatory bodies to revisit their policies regarding the sale and use of rat poisons. There are safer alternatives available, such as snap traps and electronic traps. Rodent control methods must be humane and should not cause undue suffering to other organisms in our ecosystem.

Animals too have a right to a dignified life and death. Let us unite against rat poison that continues to break hearts of animal lovers and wildlife enthusiasts every day and take action to safeguard our fauna - our world's very lifeblood. Sign the petition today.
