Prohibit Public Sales of Fireworks, Limit Fireworks to Organised Events

The Issue

My 10-year-old rescue terrier is terrified by the loud and unpredictable explosions of fireworks. Every year, this period turns into an absolute nightmare for both of us despite all my attempts to alleviate her fear. The mere solution that works temporarily are sedatives. However, the prolonged and unpredictable nature of fireworks, as they can happen at any time, makes this situation wholly unmanageable.

Fireworks are not just a nuisance but a real threat to our pets' mental wellbeing. It's estimated that around 45% of dogs in the UK show signs of anxiety towards fireworks, and this problem is not just restricted to companion animals. Wildlife can also be affected by the noise and disruption caused by their use (Source: RSPCA). Furthermore, random, unorganized firework displays also increase the risk of accidental injuries and property damage.

We call on the Government to limit the sale and use of fireworks to organised events only. This would mitigate the widespread issue of pet and wildlife distress caused by fireworks, reduce accidental injuries, and allow pet owners to better prepare their loved ones for these events.

Please sign this petition to help make this necessary change. Let's turn the chaotic and stressful firework season into a structured, manageable time for all pet owners, pets, and wildlife across the UK.
