Prohibit Private Sales of Fireworks and Restrict Public Displays to November 5th
The Issue
Thousands of pets, dogs like ours, and other animals, suffer in fear and distress every year due to the excessive use of fireworks. The celebration, initially confined to November 5th for historical reasons, has expanded over the years, stretching into a week or more of continuous ordeal for our beloved animals.
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) reports that 45% of dogs in the UK exhibit signs of fear when they hear fireworks. That equates to almost five million dogs in distress every year, excluding other animals like cats and horses. It is a clear indication of how widespread and severe this problem is.
We, therefore, propose a two-point action plan: First, a complete ban on private sales of fireworks ensuring they are only available for licensed public events. Second, restrict these public fireworks display dates to the traditional date of November 5th, while strongly encouraging events to use quiet fireworks to minimize noise disturbance further.
This way, we can still enjoy the tradition of fireworks on Guy Fawkes Night without subjecting our animals to continuous and unbearable distress. Help mitigate the suffering of millions of animals by supporting this change. Sign this petition now.
