My pet hamster arrived in the pet shop I worked at with a limp, and a deformity that was clearly due to overbreeding at the mill he was sourced from. He has seven toes on one of his back legs, a condition that affects his mobility. The corporate decision was to send him back to be euthanized, but I was able to adopt him for free and provide the care he deserved.

Sadly, this tale is neither unique nor rare. Millions of animals suffer from unseen conditions due to irresponsible breeding spurred on by the perpetuation of sales in stores like PetSmart, PetCo, pets@home, and many others. These poor living conditions provided by pet stores and mills often result in health or behavioral issues.

As citizens, we cannot condone such cruel practices that allows innocent animals to be treated like nothing. This petition calls for a ban on the sale of live animals sourced from mills in corporate pet stores. In doing so, we hope to significantly reduce demand for mill-bred animals, consequently discouraging such inhumane practices.

It’s time for businesses to understand the significance of their actions on innocent animal lives. It's the responsibility of every pet lover, every store owner and every legislator to put an end to this issue.
