Prohibit Pet Stores from Selling Exotic Animals
Prohibit Pet Stores from Selling Exotic Animals
The Issue
TARGETED STORES- PETCO, PETSMART, PET SUPPLIES PLUS, PET VALUE and any pet store chains, CONCORD PETS- SHOULD NOT SELL ANY EXOTIC ANIMALS OR BAD QUALITY FOOD FOR OUT PETS!!
As an animal lovers, blessed with numerous pets. Our hearts ache when we witness exotic animals, filled with vitality and natural charm, confined to small cages, which are often uninhabitable, lacking essential resources in pet stores. These adorable creatures aren't given the rightful life they deserve and often face neglect and improper care.
Freshwater turtles and snakes, which require specific habitats and care routines, are often lumped together with domestic pets like dogs and cats in these outlets. Many of these exotic pets, including parrots, who have a lifespan of to up 50 years, outlive their initial purchase and end up in rescues or as neglected pets.
According to The Journal of Animal Ecology, 1.3 million live animals were reported by the US Fish and Wildlife Service as imported into the country for the pet trade from 2000-2014 (Source: Journal of Animal Ecology). These imported animals are frequently kept in inadequate conditions, leading to sickness and high death rates.
We aim to stop pet stores from selling these exotic animals and require them to implement appropriate habitats and resources for the wellbeing of all pets under their care, OR AS A WHOLE STOP SELLING THESE EXOTIC ANIMALS.
