Like many others in our province, I am currently facing an unimaginable situation. I am being forced to abandon my beloved dog due to the majority of affordable housing options denying pets. This is not just my story, but the story of countless individuals who are struggling to survive and now must make the heartbreaking decision to part with their pets.

It's a well-known fact that pets provide emotional support and companionship, especially during challenging times. According to a study by the Human-Animal Bond Research Institute (HABRI), 74% of pet owners reported mental health improvements from pet ownership. Yet, despite these benefits, many housing policies continue to deny animals.

We believe it's time for change. We call on our local government officials and housing authorities to revise their policies and prohibit discrimination against pets in housing situations. No one should have to choose between a roof over their head or keeping their furry family member by their side.
