As a frequent visitor of Huskisson beach, I have personally observed countless occasions where the practice of on-shore fishing has caused more harm than enjoyment. Worryingly, the catches have largely comprised of harmless stingrays and sharks, discarded carelessly onto the beach, rather than the intended fish.

In addition, fishermen leaving behind hooks and bait in the sand after their departure have become a common sight, posing a serious safety hazard. Heartbreakingly, children playing on the beach are being ensnared in fishing line or stepping on forgotten hooks, turning a fun afternoon into a distressing incident.

The bustling beach, especially during peak time, is not a suitable environment for fishing activity. Accidents are almost inevitable given the high foot traffic on the beach. Drastic steps must be taken to ensure the safety and tranquility of everyone who visits Huskisson beach.

I am urging the relevant authorities to consider an outright prohibition on on-shore fishing at Huskisson beach. This endeavor needs your support to protect the marine wildlife inhabiting near the beach and to guarantee a safe recreational environment for the beachgoers.
