In January 2023, the laws restricting spotlighting were removed in Onslow County, NC. This change has led to an increase in illegal hunting activities that not only endanger landowners but also helpless animals. Hunters often shine spotlights across private lands causing deer to freeze and then shoot them illegally at night.

Furthermore, hunting with dogs is legal in our county. These dogs are frequently mistreated and abandoned on public or private lands after hunts. Both the dogs used for hunting and the animals they hunt often become victims of abuse and mistreatment.
