We are a group of young students who, just like many others, are struggling with too many duties, ranging from schoolwork and extracurricular activities to house chores. The burden of homework, an additional workload after hours of class time, is an additional stressor that we believe is unnecessary. Not only does it strain our physical and mental wellness, but it also eats into time that could be spent on other fruitful activities.

According to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), American students spend an average of 6 hours per week on homework, which is more than the global average. This excessive amount of homework potentially obstructs the balance required for a holistic growth experience.

Moreover, research by Stanford University found that over 70% of students were often or always stressed over schoolwork, with homework being the leading cause. This reveals an undeniable need for us to reconsider homework being a necessary entity in our education system.

Therefore, we, the students of America, call for a plan to ban homework in all U.S. schools. We believe that adequate learning can occur within school hours.
