Prohibit Graveyard Authorities from Removing Artifacts Off Graves

The Issue

I am writing this petition coming from a place of personal pain; my family and I have recently noticed that items we lovingly placed on my little brother's grave have been removed. Unfortunately, this issue does not only concern our family but is also shared by many other residents of Tabor City, NC, USA. The artifacts we leave on the graves of our loved ones are tokens of our undying love, not mere pieces of decoration that can be removed on a whim.

The cemetery owners and workers have assigned themselves an authority that is not theirs to hold - the power to dispossess us of our right to memorialize our deceased relatives the way we see fit. Thousands of other grieving families in our community are also affected by this heartless action. In a survey taken in Tabor city, it was reported that 70% of the participants had experienced this issue. This high percentage indicates that our community is dealing with a major, recurring problem.

What we require is a clear, well-enforced policy that prohibits graveyard staff from removing items from graves unless these pose a clear safety or maintenance hazard. Every individual should have the right to remember and honor their loved ones in their own personal way without unwarranted interference.

We urge our local council to pass immediate legislation that enforces this right and helps protect our memories and tokens of love from being taken away. Add your voice to ours and sign this petition. Let's seek justice for the respect and sanctity of memorials of our dearly departed loved ones.
