From the unsettling personal experience of always feeling watched by GoGuardian, I have realized the impact it has on individuals, including me, in Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) schools. The use of this software, intended for the safety and monitoring of students, has started causing discomfort instead. My days are filled with paranoia about being monitored, and this is taking a toll on my focus and learning process. I am not alone in this sentiment, as many students have expressed similar concerns.

According to a 2019 report by The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), intensive monitoring might lead to increased levels of anxiety and fear among students. Although GoGuardian argues that it offers protection and monitoring, privacy is a fundamental right, which must not be compromised. We should inspire trust in our educational institutions, not fear and apprehension.

As such, I urge BVSD schools to reassess their reliance on GoGuardian. We propose to look into alternative ways to ensure the safety and proper usage of digital resources that respect students' privacy rights.
