The Issue

My beloved canine companion fell victim to a foothold trap laid unlawfully on our farm, enduring hours of unjust suffering in frigid 21-degree weather as we frantically tried to find her. This incident is far from unique. It reveals a pressing issue that demands immediate attention: the inhumane use of foothold and snare traps within the state of Pennsylvania. Every year, countless other animals - both wild and domestic - endure similar or worse fates due to these lethal traps. The Pennsylvania Game Commission reports that during the 2019-2020 hunting season, over 3,000 animals were unintentionally trapped (Pennsylvania Game Commission Annual Reports). Despite current regulations, these cruel devices continue to inflict pain and terror, while also posing unnecessary threats to non-target wildlife, pets, and humans alike. It's clear that existing measures fail to adequately protect animals or penalize illegal trappers. We are calling for a complete ban on the use of foothold and snare traps in Pennsylvania. This legislation will safeguard our native wildlife, pets, and community members from these hazardous and heart-wrenching incidents. Don't let another innocent creature fall victim to this inhumane practice. Please, sign and support our movement to outlaw these cruel traps in Pennsylvania.
