Prohibit Congress and Senate Members from Trading Stocks While in Office

Prohibit Congress and Senate Members from Trading Stocks While in Office
The Issue
From the perspective of one U.S citizen who feels disgusted at the fact that our elected officials can manipulate the stock market to their advantage, this petition seeks your support in advocating for transparency, integrity, and fairness. It's been personally concerning to watch elected officials buy stock in companies and then influence laws that directly affect the price of those stocks, or leverage inside regulation-related information that impact the stock price.
According to a report by CBS News in 2020, at least six members of Congress were investigated for possible insider trading after they sold stocks just prior to the global financial fallout from the coronavirus pandemic. This case is one of many instances where our politicians' power to trade stocks while in office can create conflicts of interest, erode public trust, and potentially violate the law.
We need to address this by demanding a strict ban on our Congress members and U.S Senators trading stocks while in office, thereby sealing this loophole that allows the possibility of personal financial gain to skew their judgements. Ending this practice would contribute significantly towards a more transparent and fair political system.
We need to uphold our democracy and the public’s faith in our government through actions, not just words. Pledge your support to stop our elected officials from trading stocks while in office. Please sign the petition.
