Prohibit Cat Breeders from Profiteering Through Pet Shops

Prohibit Cat Breeders from Profiteering Through Pet Shops
The Issue
This practice needs to stop at once, it’s unfair and it’s unethical. British cat breeders selling their kittens to pet shops anywhere in the world purely for profiteering purposes contravene the values of responsible pet breeding and ownership. These beautiful creatures are often transported across continents, subjected to stressful environments, and denied the loving homes they deserve.
The Governing Council of the Cat Fancy (GCCF) explicitly prohibits the sale of kittens to pet shops. In England, "Lucy's Law" reinforces this by mandating that kittens must be sold directly from breeders, ensuring transparency and ethical breeding practices. However, some breeders are finding loopholes, sending these vulnerable animals to pet shops internationally where tracing their welfare becomes difficult, if not impossible.
Reports have shown that kittens sold to pet shops in other countries are often kept in inadequate conditions, devoid of the care and attention they intrinsically need. By breaking these ethical guidelines, breeders are not only exploiting these animals but also contributing to substandard pet care standards overseas.
We urge the GCCF and relevant authorities to take immediate and strict actions against breeders violating this law. Implementing stringent checks and imposing penalties on dishonest breeders can serve as a deterrent and uphold the standards intended by "Lucy's Law."
Join me in protecting our pets by demanding stronger enforcement of these regulations and advocating for the welfare of kittens everywhere. Your signature can make a significant difference in ensuring they live in safe, caring environments, away from the perils of unethical trade. Sign the petition to end this inhumane practice.
