The Issue

Petition to Oppose Marijuana businesses Near Schools and Homes in Edison, NJ

Mayor Sam Joshi,

We, the undersigned residents of Edison, NJ, strongly oppose the proposed amendment to our township ordinance that would allow marijuana businesses to operate near schools, parks, and residential neighborhoods.

This change—intended to accommodate political ties—puts commercial interests over community safety, and raises serious concerns about the well-being of our families and, most importantly, our children.

Allowing Cannabis Businesses near areas where children live, study and play would:

  1. Increase exposure to drug-related activity
  2. Threaten the safety and health of minors
  3. Disrupt the character of our neighborhoods

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), marijuana use among adolescents can negatively impact brain development, academic performance, and mental health.

We call on the Township Council and Mayor to:

  1. Revoke the licenses granted to these businesses.
  2. Uphold the original ordinance that protects residential and school zones.
  3. Engage the community in open, transparent discussions before making future decisions related to Cannabis related businesses.

Edison’s strength lies in its commitment to families, education safety, and community integrity.

Please help us protect our town by signing your name below and hold the mayor accountable.
