Prohibit Breeders and Pet Shops from Selling Cats and Dogs in Malaysia

The Issue

As a deeply concerned citizen, I am pained to see millions of cats and dogs starving on our streets. It's heartbreaking to know that some of these innocent creatures are put to sleep or meet untimely deaths due to the lack of homes. The root cause is often traced back to breeders and pet shops selling these animals, leading to overpopulation and abandonment.

In Malaysia, it is estimated that there are about 200,000 stray dogs alone (source: SPCA Selangor). This number does not even include cats. These figures indicate a dire need for change in our society's approach towards pet ownership.

The primary intention behind this petition is not just banning breeders and pet shops but promoting a culture of adoption rather than buying pets. By adopting, we can provide homes for those animals already in need instead of encouraging breeding for profit which exacerbates the problem.

We urge the Malaysian government to enact laws prohibiting breeders and pet shops from selling cats and dogs across the country. Let us strive together towards reducing the number of strays on our streets by supporting adoption over purchase.

Please sign this petition if you believe in giving every cat or dog a chance at life filled with love, care, safety, instead of leaving them abandoned on our streets.
