The image is a slide used by Professor David Miller in lectures at Bristol University to demonstrate the supposed influence of the "Israel Lobby" in the UK. In truth it serves to whip up hate against Jewish students and non-students.

Miller first came to my attention nearly ten years ago.

In 2019 Miller (of Bristol University in the UK) gave a lecture claiming that parts of the Zionist movement fund hatred of Muslims. Questioned about it he said it was “simply a matter of fact” that “parts of the Zionist movement are involved in funding Islamophobia”.  He has called the concept of Israel a “racist endeavour”.  He has said that there was nothing “historically inaccurate” about Ken Livingstone’s assertion that Hitler supported Zionism and he dismissed the fears of Jewish students on campus as “propaganda”.  Miller resigned from the Labour Party blaming his “targeted harassment” on “the degree of influence that Zionist advocates and lobbyists for Israel have over disciplinary processes and party policy”.

Complaints about Miller to the Vice Chancellor of Bristol University, Professor Hugh Brady, have gone nowhere. Last Saturday (13/2/2021) Miller called for the “end” of Zionism as a “functioning ideology of the world". Brady’s insulting response to student complaints was to offer a meeting.

Jewish students should be free to choose their university according to the content and quality of courses and of tuition - NOT according to the extent of antisemitism they might encounter!  Miller contravenes the IHRA definition of antisemitism as well as Bristol’s Equality Duty. The EHRC recently (Labour Party Inquiry) ruled that denial of the claim of antisemitism is an illegal act of harassment. Miller’s comments may well violate the Equality Act.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Or Don't Jews Count, Professor Brady?

Of course free speech is important in academia - but equally important is to call out the abuse of free speech to whip up hatred.

Bristol must dismiss Miller.
