Fair deal for Newcastle University London campus staff

Fair deal for Newcastle University London campus staff
Our academic and support staff colleagues at the Newcastle University London campus are facing redundancy following the announcement on 24 Nov 2020 that the campus is to be closed at the end of this academic year, from 1st October 2021. Around 30 academic members of Newcastle University London staff and around 40 others on Joint Venture contracts are directly affected. HE colleagues on permanent contracts (a minority of the total) have been told that they must either relocate to Newcastle or accept redundancy, with a wholly inadequate compensation package, a choice that will affect their families, dependents and social networks. The remainder of the staff have no guarantee of future jobs or transfer and have been offered minimal redundancy compensation.
We support our London colleagues in:
a. Questioning and challenging the rationale for the closure of the London campus, with loss of jobs and loss of Newcastle University’s substantial investment in the project
b. Rejecting the inadequate compensation that has currently been offered to them for either relocation or redundancy if the University proceeds with the closure, and if necessary, gaining fair compensation for both a forced relocation or redundancy.
