It has been recently announced that Israeli actress Gal Gadot will be cast as Cleopatra in the new Cleopatra movie. Although, the casting members could’ve chosen an Egyptian or Greek actress to take on the role as Cleopatra. Cleopatra is originally of Greek and Egyptian decent. Why should an Israeli woman get to play such an important historical figure in Egyptian history? The film makers have the opportunity to make this role as realistic as possible and cast a woman of Egyptian or Greek decent to make the movie more realistic and meaningful to Egyptian culture. Casting an Israeli woman as Cleopatra would also be not the best decision to make because of Israel and Egypt’s past. I am sure Israelis would not like it if they cast an Egyptian Muslim woman to play a woman in the holocaust. It’s time for our voices to be heard. You are making a movie about our country’s history and it would be very disrespectful to us and our culture if you ignore our very simple request to cast someone of Egyptian or Greek decent.
