Women are continually being handed the short end of the stick. Whether it’s regarding unequal pay, sexual violence and assault, lack of representation in government etc., we are constantly looking for support and quite frankly, a well-deserved break. When it comes to the obstacles that women consistently have to endure, we also must consider the inevitable visitor that shows up at our doorstep every month. The menstrual cycle can be a brutal and painful process that not only hurts women physically, but also financially. Since many corporations and organizations possess an enormous amount of authority and influence over the public, I’m asking for Procter and Gamble as well as Planned Parenthood to use that power to benefit women throughout the nation.

Procter and Gamble, a multinational consumer goods corporation and owner of Tampax, needs to ensure that underprivileged women are provided with an alternative and more affordable way of purchasing their “feminine products” such as tampons, pads, panty liners, etc. Through Procter and Gamble, Tampax should partner with the acclaimed nonprofit organization, Planned Parenthood in order to provide these items for lower-income women, single moms, and young girls who simply need a safe place to get medical help. Since Planned Parenthood doesn’t distribute menstrual products, Procter and Gamble needs to get involved and offer their goods at a subsidized rate, especially given their incredibly high company revenue. This will not only help Planned Parenthood expand their capabilities when it comes to medically helping women, but for those who go to Planned Parenthood, they will have access to high-quality and safe feminine hygiene products specifically made by Tampax.

Women rely on Planned Parenthood for their reproductive medical needs. It's only fair that on top of male latex condoms, women can also have access to tampons and pads.

It’s time for large corporations to step up to the plate and show women that they will provide for those who are unable to provide for themselves. Women can’t control or change their body’s innate reproductive functions, however companies such as Procter and Gamble can make it easier for them to afford necessary menstrual products by partnering with a nonprofit organization that prioritizes women's’ health.
