Private Schools in South Africa need to reassess their relationship with racism. It is our job as humans to fight for anti racism during the Black Lives Matter Movement. I urge every White privileged South African to start a petition for their specific school.  I am an alumni of two private Schools in Johannesburg & will be typing up a letter to their predominantly non black administration. 

The letter will hit these key points:

- The education must be taught in an anti racist fashion. This includes training for teachers, a CURRICULUM reformation so that students receive more knowledge about Black History

- Regular assemblies or workshops with Black guest speakers who address issues of racism, whiteness, systemic injustice and violence.

- We must build a sustaining school community that shares in responsibility of eliminating, preventing and addressing acts of racism. That means- reminders over the intercom or at assembly every morning. A zero tolerance policy for racism- this INCLUDES micro aggressions, covert forms of white supremacy, fetishizing People of Color and Black people.

- Respecting the diversity and LIFE EXPERIENCE of all the community members to supports the school’s vision, and goals in abolishment of racism. Meaning that students cannot be punished or penalized for factors that they cannot control/are controlled by the color of their skin.
