The Issue

As a student at AL Stanback Middle School, I want to bring attention to a significant concern regarding the men's bathrooms. The lack of walls between the urinals creates an uncomfortable and invasive environment for students. This design not only compromises privacy but also affects our overall sense of security and dignity while using the facilities.

In a place where students should feel safe and free from judgment, having open urinals makes many of us uneasy. The absence of barriers can lead to unnecessary distractions and anxiety, particularly for those who might already struggle with body image or social pressures.

I strongly urge the school administration to consider revising the restroom layout. Installing dividers between the urinals would not only enhance privacy but also promote a more respectful and comfortable atmosphere for all students. It's time to prioritize the well-being of students in our school environment and address this important issue.

This week, I encountered a situation in the restroom where several kids crowded in, and it made me feel uncomfortable. Rather than forcing myself to stay in an unsettling environment, I chose to hold it until I could find a more private moment to relieve myself. I recognize the importance of feeling at ease in such situations.

After engaging in conversations with a diverse group of my fellow students, it became evident that a substantial majority feel strongly about the necessity for increased privacy in our school restrooms. Many expressed discomfort with the current layout, highlighting that better privacy measures would foster a more respectful and secure environment. Enhancing privacy in these spaces could significantly improve our daily experiences at school, allowing us to feel more at ease while attending to our personal needs.
